Bio
Richard Pankratov is a New York-based multidisciplinary artist rooted in nuanced garment design, photography, and filmmaking. Richard’s studies at Parson’s are based in apparel design, in which he implements his skills using digital and analog methods of creation, through sketching, patterning, prototyping, and fitting. Pankratov’s garment-focused regimen is amplified and reinforced through his expression in other forms of media, as well as influenced by his Russian immigrant upbringing and his experiences living in Colorado, the Bronx, Connecticut and Brooklyn. Richard is a photographer and filmmaker, who’s breadth of work explores film as well as digital photography and videography, in conjunction with heavy use of photoshop, to create surrealist vistas.
Richard enacts his eye for calculating design, visually striking imagery, and unconventional compositions in order to craft a portfolio of carefully executed microcosms that are thoughtful in conception, rich with symbolism and layered with tones of spontaneity. Distilling an idea to a framework with space for a person within, Kompressor compacts the seriousness of our modern world with stark satire, reflecting the absurdity and inhumanities of a post-corporate world and those at the top of its ladder.
