I befriended Helene back in 2021. She is an integrated designer, creative consultant and mother to two lovely kids. In Helene’s eyes, there is a particular stream of gaze, determined, piercing yet gentle. The kind of power that only a mother would have. The kind of strength I wholy worship and adore.
I want to delicately uplift her and transform what body means. While I contemplated machine, body, politics, femaleness and cyborg motherhood, Helene became my muse, my voice and my vessel. But isn’t it true that a writer can only write about themselves?

Bio

Weijing Xiao (Parsons the New School, 2022) is a fashion designer and creative technologist with a focus in post-human couture and worldbuilding. They create nature-machine-inspired sculptural silhouettes and experiment with visceral hybrid materiality to speculate upon the relationship between body, technology, politics and gender. Recently their cyborgian couture garment has been acquired by Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum (Getaria, Spain) to be in its permanent collection. After their professional experiences at Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera, they are debuting their first collection Mother, which has also evolved into a collaborative performance at the Shed (New York, U.S.) with artist Yo-yo Lin.
